Research Integrity and Academic Misconduct Policy

To combat academic misconduct and promote scientific research integrity, the Journal of Tropical Biology (Chinese and English) has integrated an XML-based publishing platform (developed by Beijing Renhe Huizhi Information Technology Co., Ltd.) into its manuscript review system. During pre-review, this platform detects whether manuscripts involve academic misconduct—such as plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, improper attribution, or multiple submissions—by analyzing similarity rates from systems including China's CNKI "Academic Misconduct Literature Detection System," Wanfang Data's "Literature Similarity Detection Service," and Daya's "Similarity Analysis." This analysis combines Renhe Huizhi's similar literature detection system and artificial intelligence-generated content (AIGC) screening. The platform enables journal editorial departments to screen both submissions and published literature regularly (every six months).

Authors are required to formally sign the "Author's Commitment and Guarantee" prior to submitting their work, a document delineating the following: To uphold academic integrity and ensure article quality, the Author makes the following irrevocable commitments and guarantees regarding the article submitted to the Journal of Tropical Biology (Chinese and English):

I. Basic Academic Standards Commitment

1.1 Guarantee of Originality and First Publication: The Author guarantees that the manuscript is an original work that has not been published in any language or form in any medium (including preprint platforms), and has not been simultaneously submitted to any other publishing institution (i.e., "multiple submissions").

1.2 Guarantee of Content Authenticity: The Author guarantees that all research data involved in the manuscript are authentic and valid original data or legally authorized secondary data, and that their collection, processing, and analysis procedures comply with academic standards. The Author guarantees that the data, figures, analysis, result interpretation, and conclusions in the paper are the original work of the Author or collaborators, and do not involve any academic misconduct such as plagiarism, falsification, tampering, or fabrication.

1.3 Guarantee of Projects and Permissions: The Author guarantees that all fund or research project information (names and numbers) indicated in the manuscript are authentic and accurate, and directly related to this research work. The Author guarantees that the manuscript does not contain any confidential information, and that all personally identifiable information of subjects has been anonymized as required or necessary informed consent has been obtained.

II. Attribution Agreement

Once the authorship and order of the article are determined, they may not be changed in principle. If a change is necessary, a written statement signed by all authors and stamped with the official seal of the first author's or corresponding author's primary affiliation must be submitted. The Author shall bear full responsibility for all consequences arising from attribution disputes.

III. Artificial Intelligence (AIGC) Usage Standards

3.1 Tool Nature and Principal Responsibility: The Author confirms that any artificial intelligence technology (AIGC) serves only as an auxiliary tool, and the Author bears final and complete responsibility for the overall academic quality, innovation, authenticity, and all statements in the article.

3.2 Disclosure Obligation: If AIGC tools are used in any aspect of research conception, data processing, writing, language polishing, or code writing, the Author must make a clear declaration in the "Materials and Methods" or "Acknowledgments" section of the article, specifying the purpose of use, specific tool names, and versions.

3.3 Content Restrictions and Prohibitions: It is strictly prohibited to directly use AIGC-generated text, data, images, or conclusions as the core innovation points, key research findings, or main arguments of the article. It is strictly prohibited to use AIGC to implement or assist in implementing academic misconduct such as ghostwriting, plagiarism, or data fabrication. Content generated or polished with AIGC assistance must not compromise the originality of the article.

3.4 Data Security and Copyright Compliance: When using AIGC, the Author shall ensure that no unpublished raw data, classified information, or content infringing third-party intellectual property rights is input. The Author shall bear responsibility for any data breaches or infringement liabilities resulting from violation of this provision.

3.5 Content Verification Responsibility: The Author commits to having conducted rigorous, prudent manual professional verification, validation, and correction of all AIGC-assisted generated content, and bears responsibility for its accuracy and reliability in the article.

IV. Liability for Breach of Contract

The Author acknowledges that any violation of any provision under "Basic Academic Standards Commitment," "Attribution Agreement," and "Artificial Intelligence (AIGC) Usage Standards" in this Guarantee shall result in the Author independently bearing full responsibility. The Editorial Office has the right to take measures including but not limited to retraction of the article, recovery of damages, publication of academic misconduct notices in the journal and cooperative platforms, and adding relevant authors to the integrity blacklist.
