Toxicities of five insecticides to Spodoptera frugiperda and their field efficacies against lepidopteran pests of maize in Sanya City, Hainan Province

  • In order to screen new insecticides with excellent field control efficacy against lepidopteran pests of maize in Hainan, bioassay and field efficacy of broflanilide, cyproflanilide, metaflumizone, tetrachlorantraniliprole and pyridaly against Spodoptera frugiperda and other lepidopteran pests were studied in the laboratory and the corn field. The results showed that the five insecticides had high toxicities to the 2nd instar larvae of S. frugiperda, with the LC50 ranging from 0.011 to 0.092 μg·cm-2. The field efficacy test showed that cyproflanilide 20% SC showed good quick-acting effect at the 1st day after treatment and had a control efficacy of 90.65%. The control efficacies of pyridalyl 10.5% EC,broflanilide 100 g·L-1 SC and metaflumizone 22% SC were 84.02%, 76.30% and 57.67%, respectively, while the quickacting effect of tetrachlorantraniliprole 10% SC was relatively low. At the 3rd day after treatment, the control efficacies of broflanilide 100 g·L-1 SC, cyproflanilide 20% SC, tetrachlorantraniliprole 10% SC and pyridalyl 10.5% EC were all above 89%, while the control efficacy of metaflumizone 22% SC was 74.44%. At the 7th day after treatment, the five insecticides still had certain control efficacies which were higher than 85%. The results also showed that the control efficacies of cyproflanilide 20% SC, metaflumizone 22% SC and pyridalyl 10.5% EC were not significantly different at 1-7 days after treatment, while the control efficacies of broflanilide 100 g·L-1 SC and tetrachlorantraniliprole 10% SC were significantly different at the 1st and 3rd day after treatment. The results showed that broflanilide, cyproflanilide,metaflumizone, tetrachlorantraniliprole and pyridalyl had good control efficacies against lepidopteran pests of maize in Hainan, and could be used in the field control of lepidopteran pests of maize in Hainan.
