Determination of Antioxidant Activities of Asystasia gangetica

Abstract: The fresh edible part of Asystasia gangetica( L.) T. Anders was collected and extracted,and the polyphenonic content in the extract was determined. The antioxidant activities of the extract were analyzed by using spectrophotometry with the ascorbic acid as control,including the scavenging activities of the extract on DPPH radical,ABTS radical and hydroxyl radical. The results showed that the extract from A. gangetica contained197 μg·mg-1 of polyphenols and had scavenging activities against DPPH radical,ABTS radical,and hydroxyl radical. A. gangetica contained antioxidant activity and hence is beneficial to human health.
