Abstract: In order to study the chemical constituents and bioactivity of volatile oil from the leaf of Moringa oleifera Lam,the volatile oil was extracted by water distillation method, and its components were separated and identified using gas chromatography-mass spectrometer( GC-MS). The antimicrobial,anti-acetylcholinesterase and cytotoxicity activities of the volatile oil were evaluated by the 2-fold dilution method, the colorimetric method and the MTT method, respectively. Thirty-four compounds were separated,of which thirty-three were identified and their relative content was about 85. 94 % of the total volatile oil content. The main components included palmitic acid( 38. 63%),phytol( 6. 09%),ethyl palmitate( 4. 87%),and heptacosane( 4. 31%). Furthermore, the volatile oil exhibited activities against Staphylococcus aureus and acetylcholinesterase.
